| Bio: | Hello, I'm (Waltzing) Matilda. Over the years, I've been known by many other names – but from now on, Waltzing Matilda it is, and Waltzing Matilda it shall be. I stand before you, not as a freak (for I am not a genetic anomaly), but as a strange human being. I am a musician (accordion, concertina, piano, guitar, bass, harmonica; I am learning how to play the fiddle and the washboard), a storyteller, a writer, a visual artist. I am a clown, a burlesque dancer, and a sideshow performer – I do human pincushion, human blockhead, glass-walking, and am learning various fire acts. I often feel that I was born in the wrong era. I am a bundle of contradictions: a tomboy who loves dresses & make-up; a dissenter & anarchist who is obsessed with such intrinsically American things as cheap beer, baseball, trains, bluegrass music, and the open road. I am a former punkrocker who is still totally in love with the undying spirit of punkrock, but now listens more to jazz, folk, and circus music. I've run away with the circus six or seven times. My mom was a mime, and there are several clowns in my family, so I guess I was born with greasepaint in my blood. I romanticize everything. I have a sailor's mouth & wounded eyes, or so I've been told. I'm a heavy drinker with a big heart – or is that a big drinker with a heavy heart? If you're trying to woo me, you'll have better luck swaying me with booze than you will with flowers or jewelry. I'm perpetually penniless, but I manage. I believe in magic. I believe in a world of endless possibilities. I don't believe in linear-time, but I often live in the past. I'm addicted to bad ideas, & all the beauty in this world. And no matter where I roam, Chicago will always be my home.
